Feet First: Corrective Foot Solutions Featured in UNO Magazine

We're thrilled to share that our clinic was featured in UNO Magazine in a story called Feet First, written by Karl Puschmann with photos by Katie Cox.

The article tells the story of why I started doing things differently, and how hands-on Foot Mobilisation Therapy (FMT) is helping people in Tauranga get back on their feet, and back to the things they love.

Why I went looking for a better way

Early in my career, I'd see patients come back again and again with a bag full of orthotics that simply hadn't worked. As I told UNO:

"I started to get frustrated with the limitations of the treatment and methods that I'd been taught. I thought there had to be another way of treating the foot and leg, without having to put someone in an orthotic or referring them to surgery."

That search led me to Foot Mobilisation Therapy, a hands-on technique that corrects misalignments in the foot, followed by strengthening and conditioning exercises to reinforce those changes.

Orthotics have a place, but they're not for everyone

"Orthotics will work for a percentage of people, but not everyone. It's the same with my treatment. It doesn't fix everyone, it provides another option."

FMT addresses the underlying weaknesses and misalignments, so you can walk better barefoot again rather than relying on an external device.

Measurable results you can see

A big part of how we work is giving you real, measurable evidence of change, such as x-rays before and after treatment. That way you can see why you're feeling better, not just feel it.

"I'm trying to get someone from A to B, and then get them self-sufficient."

The sooner, the better

For conditions like bunions, early action makes the biggest difference:

"The sooner someone can get on to treating something like a bunion, the better. The longer you leave it, the harder it gets."

Back to the things you love

Ultimately, the goal isn't just to make your feet feel better. It's to help you get back to exercise, socialising, shopping, Pilates or yoga, and wearing your favourite shoes again.

You can read our before-and-after stories on our blog, including Heather's bunion x-rays.
